Muze Jazz Orchestra – MJO for short – was formed as a result of the jazz sessions at CC De Muze (BE). They released their first album Sweet Charity in 2014, shared the stage with none other than Downbeat Poll winner Gary Smulyan (baritone sax), and seemed undaunted by the music of Frank Zappa. Even Napoleon Murphy Brock himself was “very impressed” with MJO's performance at last year's Zappa Fest in De Muze, and Smulyan was full of praise: “I had the great pleasure of recently performing with the Muze Jazz Orchestra. They are musicians of the highest caliber and the compositions and arrangements by Lieven Cambré have one foot firmly planted in the tradition and the other pointing towards the future. They are deeply rooted while being adventurous as well. I hope to have the opportunity to meet with them again soon. They have some great projects planned for this year, too (the music of Paolo Conte, a collaboration with Steven De Bruyn, ...) which is why we thought it was high time this colourful crew came to Maastricht.

MJO are:

Lieven Cambre – alto sax, Koen Nys – tenor sax, Stien Carlier – baritone sax, Tim Daemen – trombone, Daniel Vanderhoydonks – trumpet, Marco Cirone – guitar, David Demuynck – piano, Rob Vanspauwen – double bass, David La Mela – drums

The Tim Finoulst Trio has also been making great strides this past year. The Flemisch guitarist Finoulst plays all over Belgium in various ensembles, such as the Jelle Van Giel Group or his duo with Kim Versteynen, Kim & Tim. This duo won the Dinant Leffe Jazz Award in 2013. In 2016, Finoulst got together with two other musicians, went into the studio, and the Tim Finoulst Trio was born. We are proud to welcome these three brilliant musicians to Ainsi.

The Tim Finoulst Trio consists of:

Tim Finoulst – guitar, Martijn Vanbuel – double bass, Daniel Jonkers – drums

As a little bonus, we present a band that really has nothing to do with the Euregion at all. But we already know them, as they have visited Maastricht before. Since they were scheduled to do a workshop that day anyway, it would have been foolish not to invite the Swiss Trio VEIN! Two years ago, they brought the house down at Intro in Situ with their playful and impressive compositions. We cannot wait to see them at this concert!

Dave Vreuls Trio

Trumpetist Dave Vreuls (Maastricht, 1994) has spent the past few years developing himself as a big band and session player. After winning the EuJazz Young Talent Award, Dave has gone in search of his own sound. As part of this quest the Dave Vreuls Quintet is goint into the studio this year to record their first album. During this concert you’ll het a preview of everything they’ve got planned. Prepare to be surprised!
