3) Entrance examination

After you register, you will receive an invitation from the Maastricht Academy of Music to attend an entrance examination. The entrance examination takes place on two separate days:

Day 1(April):

  • central theory exam (written); this takes 2 hours.

Day 2 (end May/June):

  • oral theory exam (individual ear training and solfeggio test); this takes 30 minutes;
  • practical exam: instrumental or vocal audition; this takes 30 minutes (the specific requirements depend on the particular subject. Go to your main subject to see just what is required.)

Non-Dutch candidates will also need to take a language test to determine whether they can communicate sufficiently in Dutch or English to be able to study at the Academy. Candidates who cannot communicate sufficiently cannot be admitted. Therefore, foreign students who have not attended English-language training will be asked to sit an exam to test their knowledge of English (IELTS test, minimum score of 6.0).
