Exemptions
In principle, all candidates have to take the admission examination, in accordance with the requirements of Maastricht Academy of Music. Based on diplomas, certificates, testimonials or exemptions obtained elsewhere, a candidate can be exempted from parts of the admission examination. This is to be determined by the (chair) of the Board of Examiners. Candidates who are in possession of a Bachelors’ degree from another institute will be required to undertake a solfège test as part of their practical admission examination. This test enables Maastricht Academy of Music to decide whether a candidate can be granted exemption from  the solfège component.

Combination of several studies
In exceptional circumstances, students may be entitled to take two main degree subjects. This is only possible following consultation with the head of department. In this case, you will not be required to pay extra tuition fees. There may however be additional costs involved, such as the purchasing of additional instruments and literature.

If you decide to combine your study at the Maastricht Academy of Music with another university or HBO Degree programme, you can expect to carry a heavier course load. The Academy of Music is a day-time course, our programmes cannot be offered on a part-time basis. In addition to following the course timetable, students are expected to devote time to instrumental or vocal training and other homework assignments.

In the interest of both the student and the institute, Maastricht Academy of Music is committed to ensuring that graduates attain the highest possible standard. Full availability of the student is therefore necessary.
