Each year, students of Maastricht Academy of Music participate in the following projects:

  • Aldjazz: Annual festival held in Belgium, organised by Maastricht Academy of Music and Cultuurcentrum De Kimpel (centre of culture). Bands from Maastricht Academy of Music perform alongside internationally renowned musicians. www.aldjazz.be
  • Band project weeks: Twice a year, in November and April, students run one-week rehearsal programmes under the supervision of a lecturer.
  • Bilzen Jazz Night: An annual Jazz Night with CM bands, featuring a well-known band or musician. www.motivesforjazz.be
  • Coup Maastricht: An annual art manifestation organized by students from various art faculties in Maastricht: this week-long event comprises theatre productions, exhibitions and concerts held at various locations in Maastricht.
  • Final exam projects: Public concerts organized by students in De Muziekgieterij. Students perform a "final exam" concert in an appropriate venue.
  • Film music project: students participate in various interdisciplinary projects, e.g. music and image, music and performance, music and architecture, music and theatre, music and advertising, music and film. Five films have been produced since 2004. These projects are performed in venues in the Netherlands, Belgium and France.
  • Jazz Festival day: students introduce their own bands to the audience
  • Jazz Masters Maastricht: major jazz festival featuring world-class jazz artists. The 2008 line-up includes Toots Thielemans, The Duet, the Yellowjackets and the Rosenbergs. Maastricht Academy of Music has been a major contributor to this festival for many years. The programme is put together by Jan Formannoy, head of the Jazz/Pop department at Maastricht Academy of Music. The festival is held at Theater aan het Vrijthof. www.jazzmaastricht.com
  • Master classes by prominent musicians: In 2008, Maastricht Academy of Music organized master classes by Gino Vanelli, Sheila Jordan, The Duet and John Abercrombie.
  • Parcours: Maastricht Academy of Music is a major contributor to the Parcours Festival, which kicks off the cultural season each September.
  • Play Your Own Compositions Day: original compositions for all performers, big and small (solo to orchestra), styles (rock to classical) and different emphases (vocal, instrumentals, lyricists).
  • Pop Festival Day: presentations of self-penned songs or covers with original arrangements.
  • Transeuropéennes Festival Culturel de l’Agglo de Rouen: One or more bands from Maastricht Academy of Music perform for two weeks at this Festival in Rouen, France.
  • Workshops covering a wide range of themes, including songwriting, arranging and improvisation with internationally renowned musicians.
CDs and DVDs

Each year, Maastricht Academy of Music releases a DVD and/or a CD.

Recent releases include:

  • 2005 Double CD entitled “Tweediep” in partnership with the Classical Music department of MAoM, commissioned by Provincie Limburg.
  • CD Jazz 2005 in partnership with the “Lions” Valkenburg.
  • DVD Opening concert 2005/2006 Academic Year, Maastricht University by Big Band Maastricht Academy of Music.
  • DVD Opening concert 2006/2007 Academic Year, Maastricht University by Maastricht JazzEnsemble, Maastricht Academy of Music.
