You need to have:

  • the ability to recognize, hit and sing intervals, both rising and falling in pitch, major and minor scale patterns, major and minor triads, diminutive and augmented triads, their inversions, dominant 7th chord in root position. The ability to recognize and notate simple rhythmic patterns;
  • the ability to sing back a pre-played melody in a sequence of several bars (memory training);
  • the ability to notate a monophonic fragment played on the piano without alterations in the G and F clef (tonic given; mode, meter and starting tone not given);
  • the ability to notate pre-sung rhythms;
  • the ability to recognize changes of mode, meter signature etc in a notated melody;
  • the ability to sing an accompanied or unaccompanied solfège, incorporating the above elements;
  • perform a notated rhythm using the voice (for to the exact length of the tone);
  • ability to “speak back” a pre-played rhythm
