Due to the illness of Vincent Icke, his masterclass on 10 and 11 February has been transferred to another date.
iArts Maastricht proudly presents
on
30 and 31 March 2012
a masterclass led by Vincent Icke, which addresses the role, limitations and challenges of sensory perception in the arts.
Astrophysicist and artist Vincent Icke:
“Great art and groundbreaking science are impossible without interdisciplinarity!”
Come to your senses
Block outline:
Invent a novel sense, not one we possess already (such as vision or hearing).
Invent and present a work of art that uses this hypothetical sense (maybe in conjunction with others) as input channel.
Consider the role of the ‘consumer’ of this work of art: how would he/she/it experience the work?
Vincent Icke
, is an internationally renowned astrophysicist, professor of theoretical astronomy at Leiden University and professor of cosmology at the University of Amsterdam. His interests lie in astrophysics, cosmology, radiation hydrodynamics, the formation of cosmic structures, and transport processes, but also in popularising science. In this quality he is often a guest in the ‘De Wereld Draait Door’.
Vincent Icke is also an artist and graphic designer who works in a broad range of styles, media, applications and concepts. He has been a guest arts instructor, for example at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. He is an unusual combination of scientist and artist, researcher and teacher, specialist and populariser of science.
