Fabian Homburg wins Music Award Maastricht 2017

On March 18th, 2017 bass-bariton Fabian Homburg won the 17th Music Award Maastricht, vocal edition.

Five contestants, Raymond Pocs, Laura Mosquera, Luke Mitchell, Sandrine Mairesse, and Fabian Homburg, competed for this year's Music Award Maastricht. The Music Award Maastricht is an initiative of Conservatorium Maastricht and Rotary Maastricht.

The jury, existing of Jard van Nes, Henk Neven, Daniela Spering, was chaired by Stefan Rosu, intendant philharmonie zuidnederland. Fabian Homburg, 2nd year bachelor student of Frans Kokkelmans at Conservatorium Maastricht, was their favorite. He sung Vecchia Zimarra of ‘La Bohéme’ from Puccini, Nun scheint im vollem Glanze der Himmel of ‘Die Schöpfung’ from Haydn, Come away, come away, death of ‘Let Us Garlands Bring’ from Gerald Finzi and ‘Fiddler on the roof’ from Jerry Bock. Also, the audience acknowledged Fabian for his excellent performance and chose him as their favorite contestant as well. Fabian won both the jury prize of €4500 and the audience prize of €500.

Fabian Homburg: "Music is the only language everyone understands. It allows anyone to connect and with one another. The connection music creates between myself, while I am on stage, and the audience is the one of the most precious things I have ever experienced."
