Farewell-concert Mirel Iancovici16 March 2018
Our much appreciated colleague and teacher Mirel Iancovici is planning to play his farewell-concert with us on 16.03.2018 at 19:30 at the Willem Hijstek Zaal.

Mirel Iancovici (born 1951) is a Romanian cellist, teacher, composer, arranger and conductor. After studying under Serafim Antropov at the National University of Music in Bucharest, and completing his studies with Radu Aldulescu and Paul Tortelier, he won many important international competitions such as: Gaspar Cassado Florence, Italy -First Prize and several special prizes; Imperial Tobacco Cello Competition Bristol, UK - First Prize and Gold Medal; Pablo Casals Centenary Barcelona, Spain - First Prize. Since then, his concert and recital schedule has involved extensive travel throughout Europe, the United States and the Far East as well radio/TV recordings and records for Electrecord, Atacca, Albany etc. Since 1997, he has been the Artistic Director of Schubert & Co. chamber music concert series in Maastricht (Netherlands) and the founder and leader of Mirel Iancovici & I Multicelli.
He has performed throughout Europe, USA, Cuba, the Far East and, in particular, at Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Lincoln Center New York, Philharmonie Berlin, Palau de la Musica Barcelona, Kennedy Center Washington, Royal Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall, at festivals such as Y. Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, Upper Galilee Chamber Music Days in Israel, G. Enescu Festival in Bucharest and Kuhmo in Finland, collaborating with such distinguished artists as Claudio Abbado, Philippe Entremont, Herman Krebbers, Silvia Marcovici, Raphaël Oleg, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Yoav Talmi, Paul Tortelier, Han de Vries and Gerard Wyss.
As a passionate advocate and promoter of contemporary music, Mirel Iancovici has created many compositions written and dedicated to him by distinguished composers from all over the world.
Mirel Iancovici, a much sought-after teacher and educator, currently teaches Cello at Conservatorium Maastricht and Fontys Conservatory Tilburg (Netherlands) and has given masterclasses in France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, USA and South Korea.
