Spring into Swing21 March 2018

We would like to invite you to a great ‘ Spring into Swing’ Big Band program, with very special guest conductor Justin DiCioccio, on the 21st of March at the St Janskerk in Maastricht.
The concert will feature classic swing arrangements by the Count Basie Band, a new, unheard and never recorded composition by Duke Ellington, a melodic swing/BeBop composition by Benny Golson and a highly energetic Latin closer/flag waver to end the program.
This concert will prepare you for the joy and feel of Spring into Swing! as the theme anticipates the upcoming spring season.
Justin DiCioccio is internationally recognized as one of the foremost jazz educators of our time. For 18 years he was chairman of the Jazz Department of one of the best schools of jazz in the world; the Manhattan School of Music in New York, where he had been a member of the faculty since 1984 teaching percussion and coaching ensembles.
He has worked actively in Manhattan School of Music’s educational outreach program, bringing jazz education to hundreds of New York City public school children.
In January 2001, he was inducted into the Jazz Education Hall of Fame.
Mr. DiCioccio’s has performed with (among others) Joe Lovano, Dave Liebman, Paquito D’Rivera, Randy Brecker, Phil Woods, Jane Monheit, Jon Faddis, Arturo O’farrill, Dick Oatts and Clark Terry. Mr. DiCioccio is a former member of the Rochester Philharmonic and for five years was a member of the Marine Band, “The President’s Own,” in which he served as the official White House Drummer.
