Ildo Nandja is a Jazz bassist born in Mozambique, currently living in Maastricht – Netherlands.
Ildo is a versatile musician with a broad passion ranging from African, Afro-Caribbean, straight ahead jazz and contemporary world music. He uses his African rhythmical abilities and expertise to express advanced harmonic concepts to his compositions. His sound blends African rhythms that are his roots with melodies fused by jazz, European music and contemporary world music. These musical diversities are a reflection of his experiences.
With his solo project Ildo headlined the More Jazz Series 6 festival in 2016, among artists such as Omar Sosa – Cuba, Susanna Stivali – Italy. He participated in the 2018 edition of the INjazz Festival in Rotterdam representing the Conservatorium Maastricht. Internationally he toured Italy and Portugal with Erasmus students and Mozambique and South Africa with his trio.
Ildo graduated his masters in 2019 and was awarded the Henriette Hustinxprize for his final performance. He has been regularly performing in various settings in the region throughout his studies, and we are happy to connect him to our school as a co-repetitor.
