Pieter Jansen studied Piano with Jo Dusseldorp and Jean Antonietti, Percussion with Jean Semmeling and Conducting with Piet Stalmeier at Conservatorium Maastricht. He started his career as Principal Percussionist with the Limburg Symphony Orchestra in Maastricht. In 1985, he was appointed lecturer in Percussion and since 2008 he has also been a lecturer in Conducting at the Maastricht Conservatorium.
Pieter Jansen (born 1956) won various national awards together with various Dutch top wind bands including Harmonie Diligentia Eckelrade, Harmonie St. Aemiliaan Bleijerheide, Koninklijke Philharmonie Bocholtz and Harmonieorkest Concordia Treebeek. In 1996 he was appointed Principal Director of Music of the Royal Military Band in The Hague. In 2001, Pieter Jansen moved over to the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy in Rotterdam as Principal Director. With both bands he travelled around the world and performed many military ceremonies and concerts and recorded various CD productions. From 2008 to 2012, Pieter Jansen was also the Inspector of Military Music of the Netherlands Armed Forces.
Since 2012 Jansen has been active as guest conductor and gives masterclasses for conductors all around Europe, alongside his work teaching Percussion, playing from score wind band conducting, and Wind/Brass Band Conducting at Conservatorium Maastricht. He is also a research coach at Conservatorium Maastricht and a jury member in many national and international competitions.
