Reiner Witzel , born 1967, studied saxophone at the "Musikhochschule Köln" and the "Manhattan School of Music" in New York with Bob Mintzer , David Liebman , John Purcell , Bill Evans , Dick Oatts and others .
He received a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture NRW and numerous awards including the promotional award of the city of Duesseldorf .
With his own groups the "Reiner Witzel Group" , "Witzel`s Venue" and "Drei im roten Kreis" he released CD´s featuring guests such as David Sanborn , Lew Soloff and Vernon Reid .
Concerts and / or recordings with : Richie Beirach, Till Brönner, Mino Cinelu, Cologne Saxophone Quintet, Defunkt, Tom Gaebel, Gentleman, The Gil Evans Orchestra, James Genus, JE:D (Jazz Ensemble Düsseldorf), Marla Glen, Craig Harris, Adam Holzman, HR-Bigband, Fela Kuti, David Liebman, Udo Lindenberg, Xavier Naidoo, Patrice, Alex Sipiagin, Lew Soloff, The Supremes, Third World, Vinx, and many others.
He toured all over the world , including North-and South-America , Africa and Asia and played on many festivals , including the Montreux Jazzfestival , Moscow Jazzfestival , Montevideo Jazzfestival and the Yaounde Jazzfestival .
As a composer for television and theater he worked for the TV-Channels WDR , Eins-Festival , the "Theatre Impossible and the "Musiktheater Köln"
He teaches saxophone at the Düsseldorf College of Music , the Frankfurt College of Music and Conservatorium Maastricht.
As part of the artistic - directors team he is co-organizing the "Jazzrally Düsseldorf" , Germany`s biggest Jazzfestival. Aside his musical activities he also works as a photographer for musicians and artists ( www.reiner-witzel-foto.de).
