At a young age, Theo Wolters (born 1955) started playing the trumpet with the local wind band, of which his father was the conductor. He subsequently studied Trumpet at Conservatorium Maastricht and graduated with distinction. During his studies he was Principal Trumpet at the Overijssel Philharmonic Orchestra and the Essener Philharmonic Orchestra in Germany between 1975 and 1979. He was a member of the Amsterdam Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra from 1979 to 2008. While pursuing his orchestral career, he took conducting lessons with Pieter Stalmeier and Roberto Benzi.

Since 1998 he has regularly worked as a guest conductor for the State Philharmonic Orchestra Kosice in Slovakia, the TblisiSymphony Orchestra, the George Enescu Bukarest Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Radio Orchestra of Romania, the Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra Seoul, the Korean Symphony Orchestra, the Wonju Philharmonic Orchestra, the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen, the Nürnberger Symfoniker, the Limburg Symphony Orchestra, the Netherlands Promenade Orchestra, the Residentie Orkest (The Hague Philharmonic), the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

Wolters regularly conducts distinguished brass ensembles, such as the Brass of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra during performances in Italy and Austria. Many of his concerts have been broadcast live on radio and television, particularly in Romania and South Korea. From 2004 to 2012 he was Assistant Conductor to Mariss Jansons with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, which gave him a unique chance to refine his conducting at the highest level. In June 2008, he was given the opportunity to replace Mariss Jansons during two concerts with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. On these occasions he conducted Messiaen’s Turangalila Symphony, which was received extremely well by the press and audience. In September 2010, Theo Wolters was appointed Chief Conductor of the State Philharmonic Orchestra Sibiu in Romania, and he is currently Guest Conductor with the State Philharmonic Orchestra Cluj in Romania. In 2013 he was a jury member at the Jeju Brass Competition (South-Korea), at which he also gave trumpet and chamber music masterclasses. In 2014 and 2015 he gave various masterclasses in cooperation with the Limburgse Bond voor Muziekgezelschappen (Limburg Union of Music Societies). He was also a guest teacher at the Conservatoire of Craiova (Romania). In 2015 and 2016 he was on the jury of the International Festival of Wind Orchestras in Prague.
