Wolfgang Braun (born 1967) has studied a vast array of music genres. He holds a degree in Jazz Composition, Arrangement and Piano from the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, where he was taught by Peter Herbolzheimer, Jerry van Rooyen, Joachim Ullrich, Francis Coppieters and Frank Chastenier. He has also participated in masterclasses by Bob Brookmeyer, Sergiu Celibidache, Bill Dobbins, Clare Fisher, Jim McNeely, Vince Mendoza, Wolfgang Mitterer, Matthias Rüegg, John Taylor and others.
His current work includes compositions and arrangements for different styles of music such as classical, jazz, pop and theatrical productions. He has created works for the WDR Big Band, Metropole Orkest, German Jazz Orchestra, RTL Orchestra, RWE Orchestra, Schauspiel Köln, Singer Pur (ECHO Classic Award) and others. Wolfgang Braun develops creative concepts which interlink music with dance, film and art. His diversity as a composer/arranger, musical director and pianist/keyboardist has taken him to many European countries, Canada, and the US.
From 2011-2012 he was a member of the Innovative Conservatoire (ICON) in Finland and the UK, an international collaboration of conservatoire teachers to stimulate knowledge exchange, innovation and reflective practice in conservatoires.
He has taught Composing & Arranging in the Jazz department of Conservatorium Maastricht since 2006, regularly stage-managing interdisciplinary music projects designed and performed in collaboration with his composition students, such as:
