Ludo Claesen

Composer and conductor Ludo Claesen (born 1956) teaches Choral Conducting and Choral Singing at Conservatorium Maastricht. At the Lemmens Institute in Leuven (Belgium) he teaches Polyphony and Orchestral Performance. He has taught at various music schools in Belgian Limburg for many years. He studied Percussion, Composing, and Choral and Orchestral Conducting at the Lemmens Institute and at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp.

General admission requirements

Specific admission requirements Choral Conducting

    • a practical command of stroke techniques, ability to beat in 2/4 and 3/4 meters
    • ability to conduct a polyphonic choral work
    • familiarity with different voice types and their vocal range
    • some understanding of the structure of a choral score
    • proficiency in piano and performing simple choral scores
  • The candidate must submit two examples of choral scores (multi-voice choral score and simple choral score) during the admission exam.
