Instrumental studies
Saxophone

While studying Saxophone, you systematically build basic and specific improvisation skills: chord- and scale-based improvisation, chromatic approach, bebop scales, pentatonics, hexatonics and motivic playing. You apply these across a wide range of situations, from standards to pop and world music, explore the history of the instrument, and learn to transcribe and analyse solos. Alongside this you work on a solid, healthy playing technique (posture, breath, embouchure, fingers) and finding the right saxophone/mouthpiece/reed combination. Depending on your level and musical vision, the programme is personalised so you develop your own sound, style and profile, guided by our team of main subject and guest teachers.
