What happens when the drama of opera is heard through the voices of four clarinets?
Fire & Passion begins with some of the most recognisable melodies from Rossini, Handel, Mozart, Mascagni and Puccini. Music originally written for the human voice is transformed through the sound of four clarinets, bringing a different kind of intimacy to stories of love, desire, jealousy, tragedy and triumph. Without words, the music still speaks through colour, movement and the dialogue between four musicians.
The expressive world of opera naturally leads us towards Spain. Its dramatic contrasts, sense of character and strong connection to the human voice find a different expression in zarzuela and pasodobles. The music becomes more rhythmic and playful, bringing with it humour, elegance and celebration, and opening the stage to the atmosphere of streets, festivities and everyday life.
Moving between these two worlds, Fire & Passion is a concert about music that speaks directly to us. Familiar, emotional and full of life, it brings together different traditions through the unique sound and character of four clarinets.

About Soleá Clarinet Quartet
Soleá Clarinet Quartet is a Spanish clarinet quartet founded at Conservatorium Maastricht by Javier Ribes Arenzana, Lucía Molina Cano, María José González-Conde Oñate and María Delgado Jiménez. United by a strong commitment to chamber music, the quartet brings together four individual musical voices with a shared aim: to explore the full expressive potential of the clarinet family.
Their artistic identity is rooted in precision, versatility and a strong sense of collective sound. Their repertoire ranges from classical and contemporary works to arrangements of Spanish and Latin American music, as well as opera repertoire specially adapted for clarinet quartet. Alongside performing, the ensemble is developing interdisciplinary projects that explore new ways of connecting music with other artistic disciplines.
Since its creation, Soleá Clarinet Quartet has built a growing performance trajectory, appearing in villages and cities across Limburg as well as in Spain. In 2026, the quartet was selected as a finalist at the XIV International Antón García Abril Chamber Music Competition. Upcoming performances include concerts at Theater aan het Vrijthof in Maastricht, Podium Azijnfabriek in ’s-Hertogenbosch and Muziekgebouw Frits Philips in Eindhoven.
The name Soleá reflects the quartet’s connection to its Spanish roots and to a musical tradition defined by intensity, colour and expressive freedom. Based in Maastricht, the quartet represents a new generation of musicians committed to chamber music as a space for artistic excellence, creativity and cultural exchange.

About Duo Líra
With Péter Massányi (cello) & Sofija Subbotina (piano)
Duo Líra is a cello and piano duo with a fresh and sparkling energy, who found their passion in exploring repertoire from different stylistic periods, aiming to create deep and diverse musical colours that bridge their inner worlds with those of the listeners. Formed in September 2023, this young duo has performed at various venues in the Netherlands, such as the Limburgzaal in Theater Heerlen, Kapel Opveld and Koepelkerk in Maastricht, Leopodskerkje in Meerssen, and Waalse Kerk in Breda. Apart from that, they keep exploring stages in their home countries, where they performed several concerts in March 2025. The musicians have been complimented by their colleagues and professors on their natural and sensitive connection and on complementing each other. Péter and Sofija have been, and continue to be, guided by renowned musicians: cellist Gustav Rivinius, and pianists Anastasia Safonova and Katia Veekmans.
