At the Conservatorium Maastricht you will form your own band with musicians from the Euregion and beyond. It’s mandatory to bring your band to some of the main subject lessons and to discuss recordings you made with your band and projects.
You can also choose to work with one of the style bands of the Conservatorium; Jazz at Conservatorium Maastricht is jazz in the broadest sense of the word: classic jazz, bebop, hot, cool, swing, vocalese, mainstream and all jazz-related styles such as Afro-Cuban, Latin, funk, R&B, fusion and crossover pop. We offer an optional band program in all styles mentioned above.

Every year students will be selected to play in the Big Band of the Jazz Department of the CM.
Projects in several styles with Artists in Residences will be organized for the Big Band, with performances in and outside the Conservatorium Maastricht.

Group lesson, ensemble, small groups playing, working with the guest teacher, listening to and evaluating with each other (debate)
With Impro LAB you get the opportunity to experiment in improvisation workshops by teachers and special guests. As it is one of the core aspects of jazz, improvisation can give important depth to your own musical skills, especially when you do this together with inspiring musicians from different corners of the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany.
