In the prestigious jazz competition Laren Jazz 2024, which opened its doors to all conservatoires in the Netherlands, Conservatorium Maastricht proudly welcomed two of its ensembles to the finals: the Girts Clemins Quartet and the Little Big Orchestra. Out all participating conservatoires, these two acts reached the final six, Conservatorium Maastricht could not have been prouder.
The Jury consisted of Co de Kloet, Diana Dzhabbar and Marc Jansen was instructed to select one winner, but chose to award an honourable mention in addition to Conservatorium Maastricht student Jung-Mi; composer(s), bandleader, pianist and member of ‘The Little Big Orchestra!’
“The jury was pleasantly surprised over the large number of individual compositions. The general level of all the performances was high! The jury was especially touched by the extremely personal idiom of the South-Korean Jung-Mi; not only as the bandleader and pianoplayer, but mainly as a composer she is impressive. In particular her piece “Urgency” made the jury decide to award her with an honorable mention.”
Well done Girts Clemins Quartet and Little Big Orchestra!
