Math Scheffer

Jazz, Music in Education

Math Scheffer (born 1956) has taught Jazz Piano at Conservatorium Maastricht since 1985.

Scheffer has worked with Toon Roos, Leo Janssen, Arnoud Gerritse, Ron van Stratum, John Engels, Eddie Engels, Henk Meutgeert, Jan Voogd, Jan van den Boomen, Eef Alberts, Fay Claassen, Suzanne Schneider, Norbert Gottschalk, Esmee Bor-Stotijn and Janice Lakers. He has performed in the big bands of Charly Green, Willy Schobben, and Henk Kraus, and with the jazz rock band Jazzyrama. He has contributed to a number of CDs, and released his solo CD Impressions in 2007.

Math Scheffer studied Classical Piano and Music Education at Conservatorium Maastricht. He took lessons in arranging with Jerry van Rooyen at the Conservatorium in Hilversum. He subsequently devoted himself to jazz with Rob van Kreeveld and Johan Clement.

In addition to his work as a teacher and performer, Math Scheffer is active as an organiser of jazz concerts. He also used to teach Jazz Piano at the conservatoires of Leeuwarden and Groningen, where he was also the Head of the 'light music' department.
