Music History and Music Theory (Classical)

Bart de Graaf

Bart de Graaf (1983) obtained master degrees in piano, musicology and music theory. He has a particular interest in music history/music theory and its connections to musical performance. He graduated cum laude from the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague with a published thesis on this subject, entitled Performing Music Theory. In the current season he will give presentations at symposia of the Institut für Musikwissenschaft in Berlin and the Dutch Society for Music Theory.

Bart teaches music theory at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and is a programmer at the Toonzaal in ’s-Hertogenbosch. Additionally he performs as a pianist and writes program notes and presents concert introductions for various concert halls and orchestras, such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
