Hendrik De Ryck wins First Prize with Highest Distinction at the Lions Club Cello Competition Junior

Hendrik De Ryck (14 years old), a student at the Junior Conservatorium Maastricht programme and a student of lecturer Gustav Rivinius, has won first prize with highest distinction at the prestigious Lions Club Cello Competition Junior in Belgium on April 6.

This renowned competition was open to young cellists up to the age of 20, and Hendrik stood out in a highly competitive field. He made a deep impression on the jury, which consisted of Olsi Leka (professor at KCB and principal cellist of the National Orchestra of Belgium), Pierre Fontenelle (professor at Conservatoire de Namur), Stéphanie Huang (professor at KCB and finalist of the Queen Elisabeth Cello Competition 2022), and Viviane Spanoghe (former professor at KCB).

All members of the jury praised Hendrik for his exceptional talent, warm sound, and profound musicality. This remarkable achievement marks a rewarding culmination of his hard work and is undoubtedly a promising step towards a bright musical future.
