More about the finalists

Elisabeth Ternisien
Consolation Space: a concert to explore our shared human condition

Welcome to Consolation Space, an intimate and collective musical experience. In this concert, you are invited to write anonymous messages in any language you choose : it can be something you’re grateful for, a personal achievement, a sorrow, a secret, a shame, a pride, a doubt, a question, a wound, a joy, a worry, a need for consolation.

These messages will be projected onto the walls during the performance, inspiring three a cappella singers and a sound designer to create soundscapes that resonate with your words.

Singers: Zoé Rialan, Valérie Stammet, Elisabeth Ternisien
Sound Design: Eliot André
Coordination: Anthony Bastos

Thanatos
Don’t scratch where it doesn't itch
“Death, however, does itch. It itches all the time. It is always with us, scratching at some inner door."
— Irvin D. Yalom, Staring at the Sun

What does it mean to live in the shadow of our own mortality? For centuries, existential thinkers like Irvin Yalom, Karen Horney, and Ernest Becker have delved into the profound connection between our awareness of death and humanity's relentless drive to create.
Thanatos is an immersive, interactive live performance that blends electro acoustic music with dynamic animation, inviting you to explore the delicate interplay between mortality and the human yearning for immortality through art. This is not merely a performance—your participation completes the experience. Together, we co-create a work of art that exists in the moment, embodying the idea that creation is our answer to the impermanence of life. We look forward to welcoming you into this shared exploration of life, death, and the eternal power of artistic expression.

Phuc Nguyen
Suicide Crisis Line

This work unfolds around the fictional character of Olivia, inspired by Meggie Royer’s evocative poem "The Morning After I Killed Myself." Olivia’s bittersweet story reveals the profound depths of loneliness and the relentless weight of depression that led her to end her own life. Yet, with her passing comes a quiet awakening—a poignant realization of the beauty she overlooked in the tapestry of everyday life. The simple joys of existence—making a warm breakfast, strolling with her dog, inhaling the fragrant scent of an orange, or sharing moments with her mother—transform into treasures of immeasurable worth, now forever lost to her.
Is it possible that, like Olivia, we become so caught up in the whirlwind of life that we lose sight of what truly matters, allowing worries about the past and future to overwhelm us? Do we overlook the simple yet profound gift of our existence? I can’t help but wonder… Dear friends, if you find yourself awake this morning, able to walk on your own two feet and feeling the soft autumn breeze surrounding you, take a moment to cherish the most magnificent news: you are alive.
My artistic journey is deeply rooted in my Vietnamese heritage, where death is seen not as an end, but as a transition—a passage from one existence to another. Through Olivia’s story, I aim to connect themes of mortality and the celebration of life, inviting reflection on the beauty that exists in our ordinary experiences. I am also thrilled to unveil my latest creation, the VibeGrid. This unique musical instrument enhances the capabilities of dancers, allowing them not only to express movement but also to assume the role of sound artists. Together, through the VibeGrid, they can create heartfelt sounds that resonate with deep emotions and convey powerful messages, entwining music and motion in a harmonious embrace.
