Our double bill returns with two big bands on two evenings, in collaboration with LUCA School of Arts.
This collaboration brings the big bands of LUCA School of Arts and Conservatorium Maastricht together under the batons of Frank Vaganée and Sven Heinze respectively. This jam-packed evening will be full of classics including the works of Bert Joris, plus new and exciting arrangements of our own students’ works!
The LUCA Big Band led by Frank Vaganée is attached to LUCA School of Arts (Campus Lemmens) in Leuven. The band works yearly on traditional and contemporary repertoire. In recent years, the band has shone at the Hnita Jazz Club with guest Tutu Puoane, who replaced her compatriot Zoë Modiga at the last minute. After last year's Ellington programme, this year's programme features the music of Bert Joris.
The Conservatorium Maastricht Big Band led by Sven Heinze compliments this edition with a selection of repertoire composed or arranged entirely by our own students! As part of our elective modules, all students can get coaching with composer Wolfgang Braun on writing for big band. There's no better way to do this than with an in-house ensemble to play it! After yearly internal presentations, we are bringing this project out into the open.
