On 31 March 2026, percussionist and composer Norbert Rabanser will give a percussion masterclass at the Willem Hijstek Hall. The masterclass forms part of the educational programme of Conservatorium Maastricht. External visitors are warmly invited to attend the masterclass as listeners. Admission for external visitors is free of charge.
About Norbert Rabanser
Born in Bolzano, South Tyrol (Italy) in 1970, Norbert Rabanser is a percussionist, composer, and internationally active pedagogue. He is Professor of Percussion at the Tyrolean State Conservatory and Lecturer at the Mozarteum University Salzburg (Department of Innsbruck). He has also served as Guest Professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG).
From 1989 to 1999, Rabanser was a member of the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra Innsbruck, where he worked as second percussionist and timpanist. He completed his studies at the Tyrolean State Conservatory under Dieter Köhler and furthered his education in the United States at the Drummers Collective in New York.
In 1994, he was awarded First Prize at the Sparkasse Promotion Award Tyrol/South Tyrol. Earlier in his career, he performed with the Spa Orchestra Bad Gastein and was a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Symphony Orchestra, working under conductors Claudio Abbado and Franz Welser-Möst.
Norbert Rabanser has collaborated with leading orchestras worldwide, including the Vienna Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Zurich Opera Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Camerata Salzburg, Philharmonia Orchestra London, Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg.
