Biography
Stígandr Quintet is an ethnic jazz ensemble founded by Elena Stamatopoulou (oud, vocals) and Mathias Palludan (saxophone, flute), and developed during their studies at the Conservatorium Maastricht. Joined by David Luca (piano), Alex Chavez (bass), and Micky Laheij (drums), the group blends the modal richness and rhythmic complexity of traditional Greek music with the improvisational language of contemporary jazz.
The quintet creates original music that reflects both their cultural roots and modern influences. Their sound combines Greek folk melodies with the freedom and interaction of jazz, resulting in music that feels both familiar and new.
Their instrumentation gives them a unique voice—mixing the warm, earthy sound of the oud with lyrical winds and a responsive rhythm section. Each piece is a story, shaped by emotion, rhythm, and dialogue between the musicians.

Biography
The proposed quartet for this year's Jazz Night—made up of musicians from the Jazz Department of the Conservatorium Maastricht - consists of: Paul Saumets (Saxophone), David Luca (Piano), Alex Chavez (Double Bass), and Mario Calzada Peña (Drums).
Recently, in exactly this formula, we performed a concert on stage at this year's Laren Jazz Festival, where we were very well received by the audience. Our concert, at the request of the participants, turned into a spontaneous extended show, which lasted almost two hours - far exceeding the originally scheduled time. Our original compositions were received with extraordinary warmth, numerous applauses and strong encouragements.
As a group of good friends, united by a passion for music, with a balance between experience, maturity and youthful freshness, combined with a mix of instrumental skills and creativity, we promise an exciting and authentic interpretation of contemporary jazz.

More about Avanjit Singha Trio

Members
Avanjit Singha (Guitar)
Alex Chavez (Bass)
Micky Laheij (Drums)

Biography
There is an exciting new wave approaching in the world of jazz and its derivative sub-genres. And the members of this ensemble have taken on the task to jump on that bandwagon.
In case of this particular one, we implore methods each our own directed towards a culmination of our personal influences to innovate the new and unheard.
Individual Talents:
The raw tone of the Telecaster (guitar) channeled through the vintage Vibroverb Amp gives a sound reminiscent of the early 60s Fender guitars which when accompanied with Avanjit’s (guitarist) Americana/bluegrass influences combined with his jazz language and affinity for good rock&roll music conjures a new blend, perhaps another syncretic phenomenon in the works, who knows, only time can tell.
