Last week, students Margarita Dudçaka (vocals Bachelor 4) and Jeroen Pijpers (Organ Master 2) won second prize at the 6. Internationaler Orgel-Gesangs-Wettbewerb in Neuss (D). The competition was part of the church music week that is organized every 2 years in Neuss. The duo Sarah Proske (soprano) and Maja Vollstedt (organist) also received the 2nd prize. Both ladies study at the University of Applied Sciences in Lübeck.

In the preliminary round, Jeroen Pijpers and Margarita Dudçaka performed Trois Melodies by Olivier Messiaen and the new composition 'Confirma me' by Wouter van Belle. During the finale, works by Mozart KV427 (Laudamus te), Poulenc (Priez pour paix), Copland (Why do they shut me out of Heaven) and a Marian antiphon by Herman Strategier were performed. Margarita also sang the Beata es, Virgo Maria of the Let Rihards Dubra.

Jeroen Pijpers played organ solos by Bernard Bartelink (Toccata) and Simon Preston (Alleluyas).

The preliminary round was held in the Christuskirche (Kleuker-Orgel III/38) and the final took place in the Quirinus-Münster (Seifert-Orgel IV/86). The latter church can be seen as one of the most important Late Romanesque buildings in Germany. A six-member jury was present, consisting of teachers and musicians from Neus, Cologne, Düsseldorf and Stuttgart.

Both students were coached by Hans Leenders, as were their regular teachers.
