Public broadcasting: ARIA candidate Ami Hewitt

2 December 2021

The ARIA programme is looking for the new opera star in the Netherlands. In the 8-part series, the candidates are challenged every week with challenging vocal assignments. The jury consists of: Rosemary Joshua, Tania Kross and Henk Poort.

One of the candidates is Ami Hewitt. Ami was born and raised in Dublin and now studies at the Maastricht Conservatorium. Ami has often been on stage with a choir, but as a soloist she has little experience. That is why she would like to join ARIA. She wants to gain experience and perform with a large orchestra. Her greatest dream is to become an opera soloist. After high school she went to study singing at the University of Dublin and had a part-time job as a dancer.
A teacher at that university points out her beautiful soprano voice and her love for opera arises. She chooses Conservatorium Maastricht to make her dream a reality.
She is a big fan of Mozart and Verdi and about singing opera she says: “As a classical singer you never stand alone on stage, you are a character and you can completely immerse yourself in it. That's fantastic."
