In 1987, Everaert was awarded the Gold Medal of the Belgian State in the fields of Singing and Chamber Music. Two years later, he was awarded first prize at the Concorso G. B. Pergolesi in Rome. In 1992, he received third prize in the International Competition for Coloratura Singing in Stuttgart.
Axel Everaert has performed in numerous recitals and concerts in Belgium, France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Canada and the Netherlands. Several of his recitals and concerts have been broadcast live by the national radios of Belgium, Switzerland, Canada and Germany. Furthermore, he has been a guest singer at the opera houses of Cologne, Aachen, Koblenz, Athens (Megaron), Lille, Besançon, Avignon and the National Opera House in Brussels. He has also appeared as a soloist with major orchestras, including the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, the Baden-Baden Orkester, the Hamburger Barockorkester, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, the Nationaal Orkest van België, the Collegium Instrumentale Brughense and Musica Antiqua Köln. He has been invited to take part in several major festivals (Rossini Festival Pesaro, the Festival de Wallonie, Festival van Vlaanderen, Mozartfest Würzburg, Den Bosch Boulevard, Halle Händel-Festspiele, Orlando festival, and the Festival de Musique de Strasbourg.
Everaert’s repertoire extends across the Bach and Handel oratorios, major operatic roles by Mozart, Rossini and Donizetti, as well as a broad selection of Belgian, German, French, Russian and Italian songs. He is particularly interested in the Italian Belcanto repertoire. With his accompanist Pascale del Marmol, he has recorded a CD dedicated to the songs of Respighi (Pavane) and a recital CD with a selection of songs by Liszt, Rossini, Fauré and Mendelssohn (EBS). He also performs a duet with the Korean soprano Sumi Jo on her latest CD, accompanied by the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra (Warner).
In the Classical Music department of Conservatorium Maastricht, he teaches Solo Singing and Opera.
