Daniel Jonkers

Daniel Jonkers, 1993 born in Geleen (The Netherlands) is a Brussels based drummer. He is very active in the music scene in and outside of Brussels since moving there in 2015. He completed his Bachelor of Music at the Conservatory of Maastricht in 2016 with Ron Van Stratum and Arnoud Gerritse and he finished his Master of Music with, among others, Stéphane Galland, Kris Defoort and John Ruocco in 2018.

In 2014 he won the EU Jazz Young Talent Award. Words from the jury:“ Daniel took our attention by his way warded choices, great timing and impressive dynamics.

In 2018 he won the Toots Thielemans Jazz Award from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels together with Federico Stocchi for most outstanding musicians finishing their studies.

The Newspaper “ The Limburger” in The Netherlands called Daniel “a rhythmic painter in Europe’s capital with roots from Limburg” in a special article about him in 2019.

Daniel performs in all kinds of bands with many different constellations where either he co-composes/arranges music for or is active as a sideman.

Some currently active bands are: Aligaga, Nicolas Thys “Sound Circus”, Nabou Claerhout’s Trombone Ensemble, Louise van den Heuvel “Sonic Hug” and Lennert Baerts “Profound Observer & Bert Joris”.
