Since 1986, Bruynen has performed as a section, solo and lead player in the world-renowned WDR Big Band; named by the international press as one of the best jazz orchestras in the world and winner of countless nominations and awards, including two Grammy Awards. He has played with famous bands including The Skymasters, Metropole Orchestra and the Dutch Jazz Orchestra.
Bruynen conducts his own big band Brownie Speaks, with which he recorded the CD First. His compositions can be heard on his CDs Space For All, recorded with his sextet Brownies Colours, and the new quintet CD Pure and Blue, released in the autumn of 2015. Rob's trumpet sound can be heard on over 60 CDs and 35 years of radio and television recordings.
Born in Maastricht, Bruynen discovered the creative potential of the trumpet at the age of 14, and started his career in local jazz groups and big bands. During his classical and jazz studies at the Hilversums Conservatorium, he was already asked to play the lead and solo trumpet and played with bands such as The Skymasters, Vara's Dansorkest, The Dutch Jazz Orchestra, Metropole Orchestra and many others.
He has also taught various workshops and clinics.
Rob Bruynen is a dedicated Trumpet lecturer in the Jazz department at Conservatorium Maastricht, where he also works with combos and the big band, and feels it is very important to pass on his professional experience to young, promising musicians.
