Electronic Music Performance
Currently, electronic musicians everywhere are searching for ways to include more live elements in their performance and Jazz musicians are exploring the possibilities of electronic music.
The EMP (Electronic Music Performance) programme prepares you for a successful career at the junction of those two directions.
The idea is to get the sound directly from your head into songs and, more importantly: on stage. Produce music at a professional level and then perform it, in new creative ways, with talented musicians. Making the most of all the possibilities music technology has to offer.

STUDENT INTERVIEW - GEORGIEV ALEKSIEV
Electronic Music Performance
I am Georgi Aleksiev and I am the first student in the EMP course. I was born in Bulgaria but grew up in Belgium. I am an artist and producer, I studied jazz music, guitar, piano, vocals and drums in a music academy in Brussels. I produce pop, rock, reggae, house and many other genres and a lot of my work is already on streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music. Since my first year in the conservatory, I have been experimenting more and more with the jazz material that I study in class and apply it to my tracks, and also collaborating with different musicians in my year that also influence the songs with their ideas.

Video Requirements
Share your unedited video recording links in the portfolio. Videos should be uploaded to your YouTube channel (if you don’t have one, make one). Set your videos to ‘unlisted’ so only you and we can see them. IMPORTANT: DO NOT send the actual video(s): ONLY LINKS to the video(s).
Videos should have good audio quality, where we can hear your playing very well. You can make separate short videos or one longer one.
The candidate presents him/herself in English at the start of the video. The video is a maximum of 10 minutes long.
Video content
- 3 own productions in a DAW (originals). Show the entire production and then talk us through which tools and techniques you’ve used in those productions.
- A video of you playing on your instrument. Do you play more instruments than one? Great, show it to us and send in a video per instrument or a video in which you show yourself playing multiple instruments. It’s important to show your ‘jazz skills’ where you have them. Playing (jazz) piano and/or guitar is a plus!
If you have any experience with live performing, please showcase that in a video as well. This helps us form a complete picture of your application. This performance can include electronic elements, but it doesn’t have to.
If you have also written music in notation, either a lead sheet or arranged in a score, this is also worth showing us. You can add a link to a cloud folder (Google Drive/OneDrive/Dropbox) with your PDFs in it. Make sure it’s accessible to anyone who uses the link.
What you also need to know
In our curriculum we will be focusing on Ableton live, that being said, you should present your work in the DAW that you are most comfortable in. In case that your material is selected, you will get an invitation for an online theory test and, if necessary, an online meeting with the main subject teachers.
