Oboe

Master
Oboe

In the Bachelor’s programme, you will focus on the basics: breathing, posture, finger technique, sound generation, vibrato, articulation and more.
In the Master’s programme, you will focus on consolidating the basics, audition points, audition concerts, and working on other aspects including the mental component.
When studying the oboe, it is very important to work as comprehensively as possible, together with your main subject teacher. In addition to the weekly lessons, this includes regular training of audition points and especially reed making. Too little time is generally devoted to reed making, even though a ‘good’ reed is essential to a performance. As a student, you will be shown a structured way, allowing you to find your own reed construction style and achieve the highest possible ‘hit rate’. Particular attention will also be paid to English horn lessons, as the instrument has a wide range of uses in literature.
An adjustment and repair course is offered per semester, intended to reduce any feelings of ‘helplessness’ or fear you may have when it comes to small mechanical problems with your instrument.
You will also be required to give a public lecture every semester.
